    Tariff:

    • A Tariff is tax on imports
    • There are 2 types of Tariff’s
    • Revenue Tariff
    • Protective Tariff
    • Designed to protect American industry
    • A big problem is they cause prices to go up
    • Doesn’t do anything for areas like South and West leading South Carolina to take initiative and start a showdown

    The Era of Good Feelings
    (Catchup today)
    So, war of 1812, we can catchup.

    After the war of 1812 takes up almost all of Madison’s second term, James monroe follows.

    His presidency is referred to as the “Era of Good Feelings”
    War of 1812 signals end of federalists party, 1817 – Country was down to only one surviving political party. Not as much fighting going on, politicians seemed to get along better.

    Very important going on but not as much political arguing.

    From this point forward, for a while, was the democrats. The only ones in existance from 1817 – 1835). afterwards birth of second American party system.

    Today going to fight war of 1812 – referred to as 2nd war for independence. Nation was unprepared for, not going to solve anything.

    Original History Notes – 10/4/11

    The American Revolution

    Today we’re going to Fight the revolution:

    Talk about a few battles. First actual revolution battle takes place in 1775 outside of Boston. First shot’s were fired at Lexington and Concord, sent out Olive branch petition.

    Before any of events take place – first battle.
    American are grouping together – British army comes together and march up hil. Americans start mowing them down row by row, eventually American retreats.
